Israeli income tax brackets, 2026

Israel taxes employment income on a progressive annual scale from 10% to 47%, with a 3% surtax above a high-income threshold - an effective 50% top rate. Tax is reduced by credit points, and monthly payroll withholding is only an estimate of the annual liability: when your year is irregular, the difference is refundable. These are the same official figures our Hebrew calculators run on.

Above 721,560Above 60,13050% (47% + surtax)
The 20% and 31% bands were widened in the January 2026 reform. The 47% band ends exactly at the surtax threshold, so every shekel above 721,560 ILS is effectively taxed at 50%.

How the tax is actually computed

  • Annual taxable income runs through the brackets - each band taxed at its own rate.
  • Credit points are subtracted from the result: base 2.25/2.75 points, plus points for children, a degree, army service, new-immigrant status and more.
  • National insurance and health tax are separate payments with their own scale - see the national insurance guide.
  • Capital income (RSU gains above grant, securities, crypto) is taxed separately, mostly at 25%, plus up to 5% surtax above the threshold.

Earlier years - what refunds are computed on

A refund claim for, say, 2022 is computed on the 2022 table, not today's: the thresholds were lower (the 10% band ended at 77,400 ILS) and the credit point was worth 2,676 ILS. Frequently asked questions

Is the bracket applied to my whole salary when I cross a threshold?

No. The brackets are marginal: only the shekels above each threshold are taxed at the higher rate. A raise or overtime never reduces your net pay.

What are credit points?

Fixed annual credits subtracted from the computed tax. One point is worth 2,904 ILS in 2026. Every Israeli resident gets 2.25 (men) or 2.75 (women) base points; children, a completed degree, army service, aliyah and more add points - and unclaimed points are a top refund cause.

Why does my payslip tax differ from these tables?

Payroll withholds monthly assuming your current month repeats all year. Bonuses, job changes, unpaid leave and partial years break that assumption, and the annual reconciliation - which nobody files for you automatically - is where the difference comes back.

Which years can still be claimed?

Refund claims go six years back: during 2026, tax years 2020-2025 are open, and 2020 closes permanently on December 31, 2026.
